Sneaking in Your Greens: Part II

This is an oldie but goodie and I’ve featured it here before: the smoothie.

I love these things.

They’re quick (2 minutes and I’m out the door).

They’re fantastic starters on hot days. They’re tasty, and they’re jam-packed with good for you things like avocado and chocolate: two awesome sources of healthy fats and antioxidants.

Avocado and chocolate you say? Yes, doesn’t that sounds strange? Well try it, you may be surprised because rather than adding flavor, the avocado adds a nice, creamy texture to the smoothie.

Doesn’t chocolate for breakfast sound decadent? Well it can also be good for you, in fact, some people think it may help keep weight off. Whether it can stave off weight gain or not, there are ways to include it in your breakfast, while preserving flavor and getting a healthy dose of  good-for-you fats and dark leafy greens.

Here’s how:

Ingredients (inspired by Angela’s  of Oh She Glows’ Crazy Woman Chocolate Blender Pudding)

1 cup milk (make it vegan and use almond milk)

1 cup spinach-deveined

1/2 avocado

1.5 Tbsp cocoa powder

1-2 tsp honey, or other sweetener, to taste (use agave or maple syrup and make it vegan)

3-4 Ice cubes

Directions

Just 1- throw in your blender and blend until smooth!

**hint- throw it all in your blender the night before and store in your refrigerator. In the morning, blend and go.
